POSITION SUMMARY

World Courier, a global leader in Pharmaceutical Logistics worldwide, is seeking an exceptional Business Development Manager with highly developed skills in Sales and Business Development. Forming part of a sales team, you will focus on achieving our ambitious customer acquisition objectives to increase our global footprint. You will report directly to the Business Manager and will be based in Johannesburg.

Your ability to learn and understand, quickly and effectively, the Operations side of the business will make you an asset to the team. In addition, you will be responsible for delivering and executing all current growth in sales tactics and action plans required to achieve sales targets.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and further strengthen relationships with our existing customers to facilitate increased business/revenue
• Develop and acquire new business with new customers
• A deep understanding of World Courier’s products & service offerings and becoming a champion in supporting our Regional Sales and Business Development team (3-6 months training provided) in order to support and execute the Sales & Marketing Strategy for South Africa in line with the Global Sales Strategy
• Champion Salesforce and work with the administrator to maximize system usage and capability. NB: this will be the main tool for tracking and data capture
• Responsible for certain sales and performance analytics
• Understand and support of the pricing strategy in order to enable profitable and sustainable growth
• Coordinate with Marketing and/or Sales Analyst to provide trend analysis and industry focus, as and when required
• Support Quarterly Business Review’s (QBR’s) through creation of presentation materials and may also be required to attend and present at such meetings
• Budget, forecast and monitor sales figures
• May be required to travel domestically and internationally on occasion.
• Support /collaboration required to:
  • Act as a liaison/partner between the Sales Team and other internal customers (Operations, Africa Team, branches and Finance) to ensure cohesion and internal relationship building
  • Timely response to RFP’s, RFQ’s, RFI’s and related client requests generated in close cooperation with Customer Services, Sales Analyst and Business Manager
  • Attend conferences and professional association meetings and promote World Courier solutions, and drive brand awareness to increase leads and sales
  • Assist/Support others in the sales department on special projects
  •  Improve brand image through targeted Marketing activities
  • Work with multi-functional departments to guide the development of solutions to customers
  • Identify risk areas and build and manage contingency to mitigate

The holder of the position is obliged to perform, in addition to the above described tasks, individual tasks assigned by his/her superiors, which are to be seen by their nature as part of his/her work area, or which arise out of necessity

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• 5 – 10 years’ experience working in a Sales/Client focused role, Pharmaceutical Distribution beneficial (Highly sought after is Clinical Trials logistics)
• Outstanding relationship building ability with strong planning and analytical skills
• Professional and confident presentation skills with proficiency Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
• Ability to independently manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Good understanding of the Logistics Landscape as well as Clinical Trial and Pharma Market in South Africa/Africa
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in RFP processes

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Professional and confident presentation skills
• Proficiency with working tools such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word
• Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
• Ability to independently manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Able to provide relevant ad-hoc information on request
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Good understanding of the South African and African Logistics Landscape
• Good understanding of the Clinical Trial and Pharma Market in South Africa/Africa – Beneficial
• Proven track record in Sales & Business Development for a Forwarding, Courier or similar Company preferably in the healthcare and cool chain sector
• Ability to manage process to strict timelines
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in RFP processes
• Strong relationship management
• Strong planning and analytical skills
• Able to follow procedures & instructions
• Able to provide relevant information on request
