The Department of Information Systems plays an important role in supporting this strategic imperative. The Department prides itself on developing highly qualified professionals and researchers in the Information Systems and associated fields. The Department offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Information Systems up to PhD level.

Given the strategic thrust of UWC, the Department is currently experiencing growth and is thus inviting appropriately qualified and experienced persons to join its  ranks.  The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Department and Faculty that is dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development and community engagement. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the Department’s academic programmes and its research agenda.

The successful candidate for the Lecturer in the Department of Information Systems will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

• Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Information Systems
• Conduct research and publish in reputable publications in the broad ICT field
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
• Provide academic leadership and administration
• Undertake curriculum development and assessment
• Participate in community engagement and outreach

• Have an undergraduate degree majoring in Information Systems or a related Information Technology (IT) discipline and at least a Master’s degree in Information Systems or a closely related discipline.
• Have demonstrable skills in coding in the HTML5 technology suite or workplace experience in the same (both client and server-side), or the requisite technical modules reflected on their academic transcript.
• Have demonstrable skills in coding in a compiled object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, Rust, Python.
• Have demonstrable ability to design, implement, query and manage relational databases using proprietary relational database management systems.   A good working knowledge of the SQL language is a requirement in this regard.

Added advantages

Experience in teaching the above listed skills will greatly bolster an applicant’s application, but is not a requirement if the applicant has sufficient industry related experience.  In particular, applicants that can express an innovative approach to teaching these technologies and to developing problem-solving and abstraction skills in their students, will be given preference
