About the Team

The Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Africa team has expanded significantly during 2021 and will grow further in 2022. It forms part of the EMEA region’s Corporate Solutions division of Swiss Re. This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing team in a local start-up environment as part of a well-established, market leading global reinsurance and insurance company.

About the Role

In this position, you will join the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Africa Ltd finance team, responsible for statutory and regulatory reporting and will also have the responsibility for the co-ordination, development, understanding and analysis of the statutory results on a quarterly and annual basis. In addition, you may also be required to work on some other key finance projects; prior experience with respect to VAT and credit control will be a plus. A key responsibility of the role will be coordinating the requirements for the conversion to local IFRS17 reporting, effective 1 January 2023, which includes assisting in the rollout of the new system landscape to ensure a successful conversion.

The role will provide an excellent opportunity for a motivated financial specialist to work on the IFRS17 implementation project with the Group IFRS17 project team, communicating with various internal stakeholders on the progress of the IFRS17 implementation, while also collaborating with various other teams across the Group.

Post the local implementation, you will play a critical role in understanding the impact of IFRS17 on the balance sheet and future earnings of SRCSA.

You will also play a key role in supporting the IFRS17 implementation for the Swiss Re Group, as it transitions to IFRS17, effective 1 January 2024.

In addition, you may also be required to work on some other key finance projects; prior experience with respect to VAT and credit control will be a plus.

Key Accountabilities

• Organise, prepare and deliver very good quality statutory and regulatory reporting in the required timeframe to management, the Board of Directors and the regulator.
• Project management and execution of various legal entity finance related projects and initiatives.
• In depth understanding of the statutory balance sheet and profit and loss positions and be able to perform variance analysis on the balance sheet and profit and loss account, as well as assessing the capital requirement on a quarterly and annual basis.
• Continually enhance systems and processes to meet reporting requirements and to ensure optimal and efficient reporting processes, involving coordination with other finance teams, IT and risk divisions.
• Be an integral part of the testing and rollout of the new IFRS17 system landscape.
• Coordination and alignment with the Group IFRS17 project team.
• Support the production/review of the balance sheet and earnings under IFRS17 for SRCSA.
• Contribute to the establishment of a new IFRS17 end-to-end reporting process for SRCSA.
• Support IFRS17 training, for the SRCSA Board of Directors and senior management.
• Communicate the issues/challenges with key stakeholders on time.

About You

• Qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent qualification.
• Strong expertise in and prior exposure to IFRS17.
• Able to quickly develop an understanding of new systems and processes.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in the South African short-term insurance industry, with financial accounting and reporting experience a plus.
• Prior exposure in dealing with multiple stakeholders a plus.
• Prior exposure to VAT and credit control a plus.
• Flexibility to work in both a collaborative team environment as well as independently.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational skills.
• Ability to balance technical requirements and business mind-set to be solutions oriented.
• Demonstrate high performance and personal accountability for areas of responsibility.
