Managing Director: Liquid Bulk Transportation

Industry: Transportation, Logistics

Particulars: Chemical Bulk Haulage

Reports to: Group CEO

Duties & Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility for all facets of the business and ensuring financial operational and performance objectives are met
Providing strategic direction, ensuring that the strategy is operationalised in all spheres of the business
Setting performance objectives, continuous performance monitoring and reviews
Maintaining an effective presence in the market with existing clients, while seeking out new opportunities and growing the client base
Consistently evaluating the existing fleet composition in order to ensure that it meets the demands of the client base, and effective forward planning of new fleet additions to take advantage of legislation and design innovations to improve trip performance over given routes
Determining pricing policy, costings, establish contracts & rate maintenance with consideration of fluctuating fuel costs monthly & annual rate escalation
Ensuring a culture of Quality & Safety is always adhered to by all staff members
Devising and implementing a staff training & development plan
Ensuring all staff conform to Company Employee guidelines and processes
Oversee all statutory compliance responsibilities and ensure they are met
Performance reporting to the Board

Education and skills:

Bachelors Degree Minimum BCom or related qualification

This is a unique opportunity for a Managing Director to lead and manage a well-established and successful liquid bulk transportation company. The successful candidate will have full strategic, operational, and financial responsibility, and will be required to represent the Company at Group-level board meetings. The ideal candidate will have well rounded experience at a senior management level in the transportation industry, including a thorough understanding of pricing, contracts, all commercial aspects, and the key business drivers associated with the liquid chemical transport industry.

This is a hands-on role and will involve engaging with operations and large blue-chip customers. Strong communication, sales and business development skills are therefore essential. An advanced knowledge of Microsoft business tools is a requirement.
