THE POSITION

We are currently seeking Head of Animal Health (AH) Business, based in Johannesburg, to join our leadership team in OPU (Opearting Unit) South Africa.

The position holder is responsible for the development, the alignment and the execution of the South African Animal Health strategy. The achievement of the Animal Health business objectives by managing performance and development of the AH OPU business across all species, in close alignment with respective functions, is also part of the responsibilities. Further,

the position holder is accountable for the overall Profit & Lost for the business, for the overall business performance, the governance and compliance with local legislative requirements and the Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) operational framework. Directing Boehringer Ingelheim towards a highly effective, high performing and marketing driven organization is under the accountability of the Head of Animal Health South Africa along with optimum resourcing of organization in order to capture potentials in country.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, integrate and manage a number of teams; ensures that resources of appropriate quality (people, financial or assets) are identified, and developed to meet AH strategies and strategic direction, standards and requirements
• Ensure alignment with corporate/regional strategy, priorities and targets
• Ensure synergies within the region are optimally used, best practices are shared and duplication is minimized
• Ensure flawless execution of the business strategy through a focused and agile organization
• Translate and implement the regional Animal Health Strategy into a OPU Animal Health Strategy
• Align the OPU Animal Health Strategy with other businesses and functions
• Ensure implementation of BI’s corporate policies and respect BI’s and local compliance standards
• Deliver the Business Objectives (Net Sales and Profitability)
• Responsible for the P&L of OPU
• Ensure product readiness and the right set up for execution of and launch plan
• Lead, coach and develop cross functional team members to ensure optimal individual/team performance.
• Accountable for the plan, execution and results of assigned projects
• Establish and manage key customer, business and political relationships within the country to the mutual benefit of the business and local community
• Responsible for an efficient information transfer and communication with relevant internal stakeholders of the corporation

Requirements

• Senior leadership Experience for more than 6 years in Animal Health and/or Human Pharma business
• Demonstrated leadership for a large team
• Experience in General Management including working in a matrix environment
• Experience in Strategic Planning including analysis of external and internal environment
• Financial forecasting (Sales and Cost Centre budgeting)
• Ability to lead and coordinate large and diverse groups of professional
• Demonstrated solid decision making & negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking, initiative, creativity and proven track record for innovation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate and deliver results in a highly matrix organization.
• Strong written & verbal communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop stakeholder relationships
• Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks for promotion of animal health medicines
• Knowledge of technical aspects of the AH or HP industry including pharmacovigilance
